MAN Truck & Bus announced the delivery of 2,188 engines to LIAZ at the trade fair in Kortrijk, Belgium. LIAZ is a subsidiary of the GAZ Group, Russia's biggest automobile company. The order is valued in the high double-digit million euros and comprises a range from efficient diesel engines to natural-gas engines. The 12- to 18-metre city buses equipped with these engines will operate mainly in the local public transport system of the Russian metropolis of Moscow, but bus services in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities will also be powered by MAN's advanced drive technology. Approximately half the engines ordered by LIAZ have already been delivered and the order will be completed by the end of the year.

"A major city like Moscow has very high standards for its public transport system. City buses have to ensure reliable, punctual service regardless of extremes in the weather and large passenger volumes. The robust, eco-friendly MAN engines are the ideal basis for enabling high-performance, secure operation of the vehicles. What is particularly pleasing is the fact that in MAN's Euro-5 and natural-gas-powered engines, LIAZ, as one of the most important bus manufacturers in Russia, has selected drive technology that goes easy on the climate for clean passenger transport," says Lars Himmer, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus in Russia.

The smooth-running MAN D0836 LOH diesel engines as well as the E0836 LOH CNG engines are distinguished by their high power density and minimal noise generation. The engines also have in common their outstanding economy, with low fuel consumption and miserly requirements in terms of lubrication. Thanks to MAN PURE DIESEL® technology, the environmentally-friendly MAN D0836 LOH engines (Euro 4 and better) do not require any additives. The CNG engines offer best exhaust-gas values, significantly better than EEV even without particle filters. They can be run on specially treated bio gas, which achieves a large reduction in CO2 emissions. Even when operating on fossil natural gas, the CO2 emissions are slightly lower than those of a diesel engine.

The Russian manufacturer LIAZ is a long-standing business partner of MAN Truck & Bus, having equipped 1,050 of its vehicles with MAN engines between 2007 and 2010. This new major order for 2,188 engines is another important step for MAN Truck & Bus on the way to establishing itself on the Russian market, not only as a commercial vehicles manufacturer but also as a provider of diesel and gas-powered engines for trucks and buses.
